COMING UP ROSES IN EAST GERMANY
The annual Chelsea Flower Show may be over but green fingered travelers are in for a treat this summer as this year is the 100th anniversary of the East German Rose Garden in Forst, a town 150km east of Berlin and to celebrate the town will host the German Rose Exhibition from 14th June until 29th September.
The exhibition takes place in the magnificent scenic park which offers 12 themed gardens, sculptures, pergola-courts and fountains, as well as more than ten thousand roses – with around 700 different varieties. The event will celebrate the much-loved rose and the introduction of a new species, and themes such as the ‘Legend of the Rose’ and the ‘Rose in Nature’. It’s a gardener’s paradise.
The best way to visit is to combine it with a visit to Berlin for a few days to head out to Forst. German Travel Centre can organise group or individual travel and is currently offering a flight and two night’s accommodation in Berlin for just £249 per person. Trains from Berlin to Forst take 2 hours and cost 26 euros each way.
Berlin and Forst are located in the Brandenburg region of Germany, an area that is home to Europe’s most extensive landscape of rivers and lakes, as well as idyllic countryside and a thermal spa – ideal for a relaxing and tranquil summer break.
Berlin is one of Germany’s most vibrant cities, especially in the summer where much of the action takes place outdoors in beach bars, swimming pools and street festivals and is a great place to start your tour of the region.
