The capital is divided by the Chao Phraya River and is nestled in one of the world’s most fertile rice-producing regions. The winding Chao Phraya River is connected by numerous canals which have given Bangkok its nickname of the ‘Venice of the East’ and boats trip along these ‘back alleys’ is one of the unique attractions of the city. The city is also a shopper’s paradise with everything on offer from high fashion to bric–a- brac in the street markets, to technology and fake goods, as well as many tailors where visitors can get clothes made with a 24 hour turn around.
